Section 2: Safety
Workplace accidents

7. Unsafe working procedures

The lack of safe working procedures will cause accidents in any working environment. When this is compounded by working with high risk power sources, safe working procedures are vitally important.

8. Working on live equipment

In cases where it is necessary to work on live mains or apparatus, the work should be carried out by persons who are trained in the correct procedure and should never be done by one person working alone.

9. Protective clothing

Clothing should leave a minimum area of bare flesh exposed. Long sleeve shirts and long trousers are preferred and should not include metal belts or open type footwear. Lack of suitable protective clothing is more prevalent in the summer months.

The wearing of any metal jewellery should be avoided, ie rings, watchbands, necklaces, bracelets, earrings.

A large amount of your work will require you to reach various heights, and consequently you will spend many hours of your working life on step ladders or extension ladders.
