1. Energy use across sectors
The bar graph below shows energy use across various sectors and quantifies energy consumption by end use within each sector. The manufacturing sector is the key area of energy use although the commercial and residential sectors are both significant contributors to energy consumption and hence greenhouse emissions.
For example, the commercial sector consumes energy in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, water heating, refrigeration and other.
The key energy use areas are:
- lighting
- motors
- heating and cooling.
In the following page you will get a brief overview of each area, before we explore them in more detail later in the course.
