Section 1: Energy Management
Energy Management Principles

1. Energy management programs are essential for our future

Energy management focuses on reducing energy use in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Ask yourself, what happens if we don’t manage our energy for the future?

  • we risk depleting the energy source
  • we risk causing serious damage to the environment
  • we will definitely pay more for the same energy.

2. What can you do in your business to manage your energy?

There are good reasons for an energy management program in all businesses. Some of these are:

  • substantial cost savings
  • a genuine concern for the environment
  • it is good business/management practice
  • it exhibits social leadership – a good community business
  • improves morale and higher productivity, with less maintenance.

3. Energy management is a long term commitment

To achieve efficient energy management, we must:

  • strive for continuous improvement to ensure success
  • always develop policy for new buildings, renovations, new equipment, maintenance and relocations etc
  • monitor and report progress
  • keep adjusting the targets and benchmarks
  • watch for new technologies to assist the program
  • have regular repetitions of the program.
