3. Action by Australian Governments

Local, state and federal governments are developing initiatives and regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make industry and households more energy efficient.

A. Federal Government

The federal government aims to improve the environmental performance of industry, government and the public. The focus of federal government initiatives include:

  • Impending carbon trading scheme
  • Energy Efficiency Opportunities Act (2006)
  • Move to Federal regulation of energy (AER).
