Eco
SmartElectricians

Module introduction

The EcoSmart Electricians 'Electrical Energy Efficiency' training course aims to equip electricians with the skills to tackle the key areas of energy use, and make a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse emissions arising from, or caused by, the use of electricity in Australia.

This unit will introduce you to the challenges presented by climate change and the impact of greenhouse gas emissions. You will explore in detail some significant measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the development and use of energy efficient technologies, practices and processes in some key areas of energy use:

  • lighting
  • motors, pumps and fans
  • commercial and residential
  • heating
  • ventilation
  • airconditioning
  • solar power
  • occupational health and safety.

You will use some existing tools and resources to assist you in the task of advising clients on their energy needs, management and recommending options. You should strive to achieve significant savings both in financial and environmental energy terms. You will also draw on extensive resources to support you and your clients in implementing change to energy efficient electrical systems.

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Advise on electrical energy management.
  2. Implement energy efficient electrical systems.

This course includes an introduction to energy management principles and practices, and provides detailed strategies to achieve energy efficiency in a safe environment. Key areas in relation to electrical energy management and applying energy efficient electrical systems are:

  • lighting
  • motors, pumps and fans
  • commercial and residential
  • heating
  • ventilation
