In 2012 the training program was reviewed and updated to include new technologies such as lighting controls and energy management systems and the rapidly evolving LED technology market. It is now delivered under the training package as a course in Electrical Energy Efficiency 21876VIC.

The course comprises 3 mandatory modules

The training course has been registered on the National Training and Information Service (NTIS) and successful participants are issued with certificate from an RTO and an EcoSmart Electricians certificate.
Following training contractors can apply for accreditation as an EcoSmart Electrician.
